This Supplement Can Improve Skin & Make You Look Younger

While there are many supplements and vitamins out there claiming to help your skin, we’ve found one that has grabbed our attention. Magnesium! Important for your gut health, muscle recovery and for regulating hundreds of diverse bio-chemical reactions in the body, it can also help you with your skin woes. Here’s how…

Magnesium is an essential mineral found in the human tissues, most importantly in bone. Magnesium is an important part of your diet as it speeds up the absorption of calcium, eases muscles and lowers the release of cortisol (the stress hormone). Because magnesium can help to stabilize hormone imbalances in the body, it can help to reduce acne, stress and even improve your sleeping pattern.

It’s actually considered to be the fourth most important mineral in the body. It’s required for DNA replication and producing Glutathione, the antioxidant.

A lot of foods claim to be high in magnesium, such as leafy greens and nuts. But, if there’s isn’t a lot of magnesium in the soil they grow in, there won’t be enough in the food itself.

There’s been a lot of pressure on farming in the past few years, meaning that the quantity of the produce has been prioritized over the quality of the soil. It’s hard to tell how much you’re getting from the food you eat, but the likelihood is, you’re not getting enough, or at least as much as you might have been a few years ago.

But, how can magnesium help my skin?

When you’re suffering from a magnesium deficiency, it means there are lower levels of fatty acids on the skin. Not having enough fatty acids on your skin means there is less elasticity and moisture resulting in dehydrated and dull skin. This ages your skin, meaning your more prone to wrinkles and pigmentation problems.

Because magnesium is also an important chemical in your immune function, it  helps to reduce acne and breakouts, as well as skin allergies and collagen function.

How do I get magnesium in my diet?

Because you can’t be sure how much magnesium you’re really getting in your diet, it’s important to take supplements. While too much magnesium can have a laxative effect, start with small amount and see how that sits with you.

Alternatives

If you're suffering from dry, dull skin (a common problem throughout the winter months) it's important to look to your diet and what could be missing. It's also important to think about your skincare, and ensuring you're using the most nourishing and protecting products through the harsher seasons.

To look after your skin through the coming months, we recommend taking some time to nourish your skin deep into the dermal layers. Use a weekly face mask to deeply moisturize your skin and use one that boasts collagen in the formula to keep your skin youthful and glowing.

Don't let the harsh temperatures leave your skin feeling dry, dull and aged. Using a mask once a week will ensure that no matter the weather, your skin is protected from free radicals and damaged is repaired.
